Why Renovating Campion Matters

For over 30 years the James W. Campion III Rink has had countless visits from hockey players, figure skaters, recreational skaters, and spectators of all ages, connecting families from 25 Upper Valley communities and beyond in a shared passion for being on the ice.

Currently operating 7 days a week, 18 hours a day for 7 months of the year, Campion Rink is heavily used by all stakeholders and many of its crucial operating systems are approaching the end of their serviceable lives. New refrigeration, dehumidification, and waste heat recovery systems will last well into mid-century and will be significantly more energy efficient.

The rink also desperately needs:

1) upgraded locker and restroom facilities to separate boys/men from girls/women as well as making these facilities available to field sports teams during non-ice time;

2) a concrete rather than sand floor that is much more energy efficient and creates significantly better quality ice;

3) a roof structure that meets updated safety codes and and building improvements that meet ADA requirements; and

4) a new multi-purpose room for classes/events.

In 2019 Campion Rink had over 80,000 user visits with an additional 80,000+ spectator visits. These are many of our user groups:
