Renew Campion Status Update 1/23/23

We begin 2023 with significant milestones reached for the project to totally Renew Campion Rink and prepare it for the next generation of skaters in our community.

Our initial fundraising goal has been met! Starting with a $1 million commitment from the Hanover Improvement Society, followed by donations from the community exceeding $3 million, the Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation $1 million challenge was met, and we now have $5.1 million we need to begin.

The goal remains for the Hanover Improvement Society to provide a user-friendly community recreational asset for many years into the future.

Our design and Engineering has been completed by our design team which includes:

Architects – Randall T. Mudge and Associates Lyme, NH

Structural Engineer – Steven Tarbox, SCT Engineering Keene, NH

HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineers – Rist Frost Shumway RFS Engineering Laconia, NH

Ice Engineers – B32 Engineering Group B32 Engineering Group Hudson, WI

Civil Engineers – Pathways Consulting Pathways Consulting Lebanon, NH

With the work of the law firm Sheehey Furlong & Behm of Norwich we have achieved regulatory approval in Lebanon.

With the aid of our Construction Manager Estes and Gallup from Lyme we are now soliciting Bids from Sub Contractors to carry out the work.

The next milestone is our groundbreaking in March.

This summer’s work will carry out the public facing “bricks and mortar” of Phase One:

  • Enlarging and updating our locker rooms, showers, and lavatories to provide space for the users

  • New and improved entryway and lobby with ADA considerations

  • Public restrooms accessible to users of Sachem Field during the summer

  • Extensive stormwater treatment system

  • Significant electrical and plumbing work

  • And of course, hot water in the showers!

We plan to open our vastly improved rink on the usual schedule in September.

Construction costs have increased significantly since we began working on this project.

Yes, but unfortunately this is the reality we face with our eyes wide open. Many of our supporters know that building costs have skyrocketed since we first began fundraising for Renew Campion nearly two years ago, and our dedicated team will need to raise more funds to begin a second phase of renewal, the timing for which is TBD.

Our second phase will be the ice-related equipment itself:

  • Refrigeration and under ice piping

  • Concrete slab under the ice

  • Dasher boards, glass, and bleachers

We look forward to inviting the community to our groundbreaking ceremony in mid-March, watch this website and our social media accounts for more details!
